  1. I've got a DVD folder on my hard drive, for a dual-layer disc. Trying to shrink it to single-layer. Pulled out the old DVD Shrink, but it keeps crashing.

One time gave me an error about a handle, the next it was out of memory, and the third time it just gave me the standard Windows "Program is not responding" error.

Is there a solution, or an alternative piece of software?

    dvd shrink is very old

Better use handbrake (if the source is decrypted)
Or dvdfab (wich can decrypt for free, shrinking is payed)

Or use makemkv (it can decrypt) but it doesn't shrink so you have to use handbrake to compress

  4. Will Handbrake make a like-for-like copy though? That's what I was hoping for with DVD Shrink, so I could retain menus, chapters, etc. Handbrake just seems to recompress the main movie file.

UAC=User Account Control, install DVDShrink outside it's range, for instance in Program files x86.

  7. I tried putting it on my data drive instead of my OS drive and it just froze.

Always seems to be at the same spot...

Perhaps give reJig a try. It needs a clean (properly decrypted) video_ts folder as input

Which version of Windows are you using?

  9. I assume you are using Windows 7, 8, or 10. For these programs, right-click on the DVD Shrink icon and change the compatibility mode.

sounds more like the dvd folder on the hard drive has a problem. try shrink with a known good dvd to see if it works ok.
