  1. I have an .avi-file that plays (on WMP) with the picture squeezed to the right and possibly the side cut off. When I started converting with TMPGEnc nonetheless the picture was suddenly upside-down.

Is the file defect and how can I repair it?

  2. The file doesn't sound defective, it sounds more like a bad codec is being used to play back the file, I suggest you see how the file works in VirtualDub and then frameserve it into TMPGEnc.

  3. Sefy,

I don't understand. I want to convert the file into MPEG so I can burn it as a VCD. The preview from TMPGEnc shows me that the .mpg is also upside down.

What does Virtualdub have to do with it?

  4. VirtualDub can do frameserving, that was the main idea.
However, what i'm curious is if the file plays correctly in Media Player ?

  5. The file is not upside down in the Media Player, only squeezed to the right. I have WMP 7.1, don't know about DirectX 8 though. I do have DirectX on my PC and I suppose it's the right one, otherwise WMP would try to dl it from the Microsoft site, wouldn't it?

I have no problems playing similar .avi-files usually.

  6. From what you are saying, it sounds like a codec problem, I suggest you use File / Properties and check which decoders are used to play the file, and best way to fix it is usually to reinstall Media Player.
