    hi i have a sony mz-r30 mini disc player. I am failing miserably to hear sound when playing a minidisc cassette via my earphones. i can see it playing on the display though. Does anyone have any experience of this model please?

    Most likely the solder connections of the headphone jack to the circuit board are broken.

    Does this portable do both mono and stereo?
    You get twice as many minutes recording in mono than you do in stereo. I don't remember
    if mono playback(or recording) was standard on all Sony models.
