Stelios !
At what speed can you do a copy at in Nero ?
The fastest I can do a disc copy is at 8X, otherwise it starts buffering.

When you copy the VCD, be sure and use a true disc-copying program that preserves the mixed recording modes used on a VCD. Don't just copy the files as-is. I use the disc-copy function in Easy CD Creator. There are many other similar programs.

I tied to copy a bunch of VCDs with Nero and it had a stroke. I found the best thing to use was VCDEasy.

I have been having problems copying the vcd bootlegs that I got from a friend. Sometimes they show on the dvd player, and sometimes they don't. I have read a bunch of stuff on this and related topics (although I can barely understand some of it!) and I have come up with several possible "maybe's", but I am looking for more, before I waste more cds.
I copied the vcds at 16x the first time and they came out alright. I used Imation cd-r 700mb/80min. 1x-16x compatible. This is also the same kind that most of the "original" copies are on. Then I bought imation cd-r that are also 700mb/80 min., but they didn' mention anywhere on the packaging (unless I missed it, and I looked everywhere!) what speed it is compatible with. Might this have something to do with my problem?
I checked the medium after recording, and there is definatley something being burned onto the cd, which looks identical to what is on the "original", but nothing I can view.
What exactly does the speed have to do with the burning process? How can you know exactly what speed is best to use in each individual situation?
I assume that if a disk holds 700mb, you should not exceed this when recording, right? Well, isn't it possible for a disk to have more than what is "allowed" on it? What kinds of problems can this cause, and how can you compress the file(s) to fit them?
VCDs consist of several different formats which make up the video picture that I see on my dvd, right? What do these letters stand for: CDI, EXT, MPEGAV, VCD? Well, I know kind of what MPEGAV is - isn't it like an MP3 format but for video? Please explain this to me.
What is encoding? And what is it used for? How could I learn more about this, and learn to use it to get the most out of my computer?
My Nero says that it comes with a demo mp3 encoder that only goes up to 30 tracks. What is this about? do I need to get a plug-in, whatever that is?
Oh, you should also know that the VCD copies that I am recording from are not all that great quality - they're bootlegs, remember? Does that make a difference in the recording process? Why can't my burner copy it exactly like the "original"?
What are the little "glitches" that appear on the screen every now and then? Can I prevent this, or edit it out?
Sometimes when my Nero is reading the disk, I get certain error messages. However, it continues recording. What is this about? Is there something I can do about it? And, does this have something to do with my copies not always playing?
By the way, my dvd player does support vcds, and some of the copies that I have made (as I described above) actually play too.
I apologize for this super long post, but I gotta figure this out. I want to learn all about this. I like to learn how to do things right, but I need to know why things work and don't work. I am positive that there are many people out there that can help me. This is all new and fascinating to me, but to many of you it is second nature.
Please Help!
Peace,

Just a thought but when I copy CD's and not image files I always use CloneCD. This will read your friends CD's before creating an image on your HD.
It will then burn the image onto your blank CD giving an EXACT copy of your source disc.
It has always worked perfectly for me and works with any format. Hope it helps. -
^^^^That takes way too much time!

OK, it may take a little more time but if he is already using Nero and it is not working I was just suggesting another option. Personally I don't like Nero. Just my opinion. -
ok i went to nero [version 5.5.7.8] file > new > cd copy > copy> put in vcd is rejected with message "the medium is blenk, invalid, or a multisession medium please insert original medium" the vcd was made on a terapin what am i doing wrong?

Is the cdclone program available as a demo? I have managed to make a disk to disk copy on my Nero 5, and the problems listed in my thread are the ones that I have been running into. When it goes smoothly, everything is fine, especially since I slowed the speed down to 8x. But I am still encountering those error messages and sometimes the read aborts itself. And how come some cds that I try to copy are over 700mb (like 745 and more)? I thought that the 700mb represents how much you can record, period. Since some disks are like crammed with data is that why they read improperly? Whats up?!!!! :-?
Peace,

My terapin came in the wrong color so I might be sending it back, but a soon as I get it going I'll be trying exactly what you said you tried so I can do some trades.
