  1. Hello all,

For many years I had a couple of 8mm camcorders and they all at one time or another gave up the ghost. I even has a Sony 8mm VCR unit (that cost me a bucket load in the past). I also had a Panasonic DV recorder.

I currently have a canon EOS 7D whenever I feel the need to record footage.

    My dilemma.

I have about 100 old 8mm tapes (PAL format) with footage for various dates as our family grew up and I want to get them in to a digital format. Also I want to get the stuff on DV tape (about another 50 tapes) on to my computer (all footage will eventually end up on a backup HDD and DVD for safe storage).

Seeing the costs of companies that do transfers I find it way out of my cost level to get it done that way.

I would transfer it all myself but with no viable camcorder it's going to be an issue.

Also add to that the old computer I used to have had an IEEE port but that old laptop is on it's way out (it's the wife old one). My current HP laptop has 3 USB ports and a HDMI port but that's it.

Money is obviously pretty limited, so purchasing bit expensive kit is totally out of the question.

    Can anyone offer advice please?

  2. Woohoo

Right an update. I have a Canon 8mm camcorder that actually works still.

I have also found something that I thought had been dumped a LONG time ago.

A Belkin VideoBus II (think the model is F5U208). So I think I may be able to start something.

I know that there will be no drivers for Windows 10 but on my laptop (the HP one) I have a Virtual Machine with Windows XP on it.

Are there drivers for the Belkin and Windows XP ? ? ?

If I do manage to get drivers what would be the best capture software to use please?

  4. I've got the drivers to install ok.

What would be the suggestion for importing footage from 8mm to computer?

My lad has a copy of Sony Vegas I can use if that would work.
