  1. Been using ConvertXtoDVD for years but now discover iWisoft is just as easy to use and compresses the video much smaller BUT can't fathom out which format to choose so the final result plays on our DVD player in the UK? Thanks Dave D

    Hi,
Choose the one that says "DVD-Video Format - PAL"

  3. Don't like to refer to you as Fatbloke so will call you Percy; Thanks Percy for your reply, nice to make your acquaintance. I seem to remember having tried that option but it failed; don't know if it was because I was using a Re-Write so will give it another go and see what happens. Kind regards Dave [Darlingtion]

  4. ..........tried that option but the video player would not recognise it, after having used ConvertXtoDVD with its conversion default format and Freemaker Converter selecting the DVD option and both played ok so the one you suggested fails the test, any further suggestions please? Cheesrs Dave.

The problem is: ConvertXtoDVD makes real DVD's
iWisoft's Free Video converter does not make real DVD's, it only converts files from one format to another, even though you have selected .VOB it does not make a DVD with correct file structure to play as a normal DVD, your player may not be able to play .vob files as files.
As you seem to be concerned about file size, you need to select a file format that your player will recognize and play as a file and not DVD. Probably .avi, .Mov, possibly .mkv.
I would not bother about converting files from NTSC to Pal as most players/TV's are capable of playing different formats.

In DaveD93's case, it appears that he should forget about iWisoft's Free Video Converter and stick with ConvertXtoDVD or Freemake Video Converter.

Many (but not all) Blu-ray players play a variety of media files as well as DVD video discs and Blu-ray discs. ...but if this actually is a DVD player (not a Blu-ray player that is being used for playing DVDs), most only play authored DVD video discs, with the vast majority of the remainder playing only authored DVD video discs and SD DivX AVI files. This means someone with a DVD player has few options for conversion available to them.

  7. As ever, thanks for the feed back, not being the sharpest knife in the box all this format stuff bamboozles me, can't see the point in iWisoft converting vidos if the finished product can not be watched on the tv. The only reason I thought about using iWisoft for conversion is because it is great for clipping an unwanted section from either end of a video. Perhaps I have circumvented the anomally issue seeing I have just purchased ConvertXto DVD version 6 at a discounted price and it has editing features built in so look forward to mastering it. Many thanks again Dave. .

  8. Rather frustrating for a silver surfer, [trial and error] Converted a short video using ConvertX, burnt it to dvd and it played ok in my dvd player through the tv. Did the same using Freemake Converter selecting the option shown in post #4 but it would not play. So expanded the trial; converted the same video using the same converters and burnt them to one dvd BUT this time neither were recognised. Why should Freemake cancel out all data on the dvd? incidentally, the sizeof the video before conversion was 218MB and after conversion using ConvertX was 1.67Gb and Freemake 0.98GB which kinda makes the latter more attractive for maximising the space on a dvd and seeing the quality of both is almost identical I still would like to use Freemake BUT must -it seems - stay with ConvertX. Thanks Dave.
