ilo DVDR04 recorder problems with drive door inop

Does anyone have a solution to problems with the ilo drives becoming inop? I've been utilizing these machines for years and have worn out the drives on several. Currently I'm sitting on 5 ilo machines, (One with hard drive) that are inop due to the burner door refusing to open. Recently I talked with someone on E0Bay that claims to be able to refurbish these drives, but lost contact before ever getting any assist from him. I understand that replacement drives are no longer available. I would appreciate any assistance, but please keep in mind that I am not super literate in computerese. When it comes to d/l things like "Firmware" from the net and applying them I'm lost.

A few DVRs use standard DVD drives. You might get lucky.

But someone here may be more familiar with your particular model and give better advice.
