  1. Dear forum members. I am a novice so sorry for lack of knowledge

I have some video files that have subtitles that can be toggled on or off when played in VLC on the computer. There is no .srt file - it is just one file. However these soft ? subtitles wont play on my television media player

As I have an hearing impairment and would like to watch them on telly with subtitles I need to do what I think is called hardcoding- that is make the subtitles a permanent part of the video.

I have searched online for advice on how to do it but not managed it. Please can anyone advise what is the best free software and how to do it.

With thanks and best wishes, Ian

  2. Try HandBrake. Open the file, go to the subtitles tab, add the embed subtitle track and tick "Burn in". Then encode.
