Hi Guys. I have a few old VHS and I would like to convert it to a pc file.
The way I am doing now is:
I´m using a hardware from Gradiente to convert from VHS to DVD disc, "Dvd Recorder DR 850".
Then I use DVD decrypter to move the files into de PC.
Then I use a software called VOBMerge to merge all de vob files (ohh, really?!?)
Then I import the big vob file into Movie Maker in order to edit it, removing some parts (there are a lot of crap in it), and then I convert into wmv or mp4 (I don´t know why, but in this step, audio always get desync from video)
Then I use Handbrake to try to shrink the big mp4/wmv file.
Man.... What a work. There is some way to do this process? I mean, I have all this work and I am not satisfied in the end. Do you have some advices?
Thanks in advance.

No DVD ripper is required to read out burned disks. You would only need a ripper for commercially produced DVDs which may be encrypted; burned disks cannot be encrypted. But there is a use case where a ripper can be useful, as follows...
Merging VOBs exactly as they were authored to DVD before processing is a bad idea. A "DVD Video" is not just a collection of VOB files. It is a logical structure, the content of IFO files is required to understand the content of the VOB files. But you can use a ripper to extract the main movie as a continuous video file and continuous audio track files, not anymore split into 1 GB pieces. This requires using the ripper in "movie" or "IFO" mode (not in "File" mode) and enabling the stream processing to demultiplex the contained streams to single files (the video can be saved either as raw video = m2v or as "PGC VOB", maybe still containing subtitles if present).
Unfortunately I have no idea which file formats Movie Maker can handle. I never used it. And if it is unable to retain sync, I would not even try now.
