Source: 8mm Tape --> SONY Digital 8 -> Studio DV
Hardware: PIII 1GHz, Windows 2000 Professional, 256 MB RAM

When I did the 8mm-> DV conversion, there was flickerings at the bottom of the creen (probably only 3-5%, but doesn't look good; if this happens when you play a VCR, you will want to adjust the "tracking"). it doesn't seem to happen when I do digital 8 -> DV conversion.

please help if you know how to remove the flickerings...thanks!

read some posts out on the pinnacle web site and found that one of the possible explanations for this flickering could becaused by SONY's image stabalization function (or "StadyShot" if you look in SONY's manual) And some posts said it doesn't matter because when you render the avi to mpeg2 and then burn to SVCD, the flickering will be gone by itself.

I don't know if that's true so I will give it a shot today.

  3. I had the exact same setup (except my CPU is 1.2GHz). I saw the same flickering at the bottom of the screen too (before and after converting to MPEG).

If I recorded the 8mm to a Hi8 in DV format first (I got two camcorders) then the flickering won't be there. It's still a mystery for me.

However, after burning VCD or SVCD, the flickering is not there on the TV screen. So, I don't even worry about it anymore.
