  1. To take .avi movie files on my computer... and burn them to a cd that will play on my Playstation 2 dvd player.

Sorry this question is basic but I need to work one step at a time.

  2. I'm not sure about the PS2 part, but you can encode the AVI into a VCD, and if your PS2 can play VCD's, it will play it.

  3. I don't think that the PS2 can play either VCDs or SVCDs (at least, not out of the box) so you may be out of luck.

  4. According to the DVD Players list, the PS2 can play a VCD, but as vitualis said, not out of the box, you will need a card/plug (or whatever they call it on those machines) to enable it to play VCD's.

  5. I will check for PS2 peripherals and see if I can figure it out. I did figure out how to get the AVI to a VCD... so I'm half way there. In order for me to burn to a DVD-R I need a DVD burner... and since I just have a CD-RW burner I can just make VCD's right?

    Thanks...

  6. Yes, that is correct, although you can make the "miniDVD" (of course, just about nothing plays it )

  7. Yup. sefy is right on as usual. A plain old out of the box PS2 cant handle VCDs. And mini DVDs have very little support and are a waste. They eat up tons of cdrs.
