    Specifically of https://www.videohelp.com/software/Free-Video-Dub

    probably from somewhere between ver. 1.3.11 and 2.06. VH often has the older versions of programs, but not in this case. I spent a fair amount of time searching around for it, to no avail. With most search "hits", the link went nowhere, or the download had been removed. Several sites that claimed to have it triggered malware alarms. One place that did seem to have archival versions was AfterDawn, but they have gone to download packages and procedures that look sort of like what CNET does, only worse, and I don't like that -- with having to jump through a bunch of hoops. So, if you happen to have this -- preferably one that you use and can vouch for (bonus points if the Open Candy or other junk is already removed), please PM me.

    Yep. I had to remove the free video dub adware crap from our server.

    I will see if I have a backup somewhere.

    I have 1.8.13.908 which offers to install a toolbar.
    Installed under Sandboxie and appears to work ok after opting out of the offers.

    @Baldrick,
    Thanks. I don't know how far back the Open Candy (or whatever) goes in their releases, but when I find this I'm hoping that I can selectively avoid and remove it the same way I did for that last release of ImgBurn. That may have been with Universal Extractor, although I don't entirely recall at this point. Ended up taking out just the two .Exe files that were needed.

    Hech54's reply to Baldrick in another thread:
    "That's why I still use an OLD version."

    Still seeking a reliable source for this, preferably ver. 1.4.13 or earlier . . . .

    Thanks very much, Baldrick. Portable app.s are always a big favorite with me. Will report back on this later . . . .

    Are these the same app

    https://www.videohelp.com/software/VSDC-Free-Video-Editor

    https://www.videohelp.com/software/Free-Video-Dub {later called "Free Video Editor"}

    or am I just confused ?

    The developer's site for the latter says 'DVDVideoSoft.'

  11. if you put this videohelp link over at archive.org with their waybackmachine (webtrawler)
    Code:
    https://www.videohelp.com/software/Free-Video-Dub
    It lists 5 hits. The earliest one is from April 2015 with version 1.4.12 and the last being from Oct 2015 with 1.4.1.8

    the download links also via the archive.org work and it did offer a program download, I started an install and it said 1.4.11.134

    so if that is a version you need you can also acquire it this way

    Nope. VSDC is a NLE/advanced editor.

    Thanks. The executable from Baldrick's 1.4.10 archive was dated 1/2015. I'll give that a try first. It may be that I'll need to reach back further, to ~ v. 1.21 (circa 2012 ?), or to when it was Free Video Dub and the numbering convention was different, as in v. 2.0.5.

    Appreciate the reminder about the Wayback Machine -- had not gone there for quite some time. For some unknown reason, doing that search from Firefox returned: "Nothing Found. Sorry, but nothing matched your search criteria. Please try again with some different keywords." But it did work from Google Chrome browser. I did not see d/l links though, just the current VH page with the current version.

    Why do you need an old version?

    Just as AVIDemux dropped some previous functionality -- along with their portable versions -- if you read through the reviews history on both programs here, you see how the apps were steadily compromised. This is not that uncommon.

    I tried the portable version Baldrick posted in psot #8. I deleted the dvdvidsoft folder (I don't think it is needed). It works OK. However, I would rather use XmediaRecode for this. Smaller and better results in my tests anyway.

    Haven't they just removed the copy video function? And I guess it should work in 1.4.10.

    Hmm thats very odd. Are you sure you inputted the link in the wayback machine section? Did you make sure the double https was removed? Before pasting a link into it, make sure that the default path it has set up is clear, otherwise you can get something like this

    Code:
    Http://https://www.videohelp.com/software/Free-Video-Dub
    Just so you know I am on firefox and had no problems with it. Do you have any peerblock/noscript active? It may be blocking something?

    When I type the addy in wayback this is what it shows me

    then if you notice in the first pic the April 21 is highlighted by a blue circle. Click on that. IN doing so it brings you to this screen below and note the "download direct" link at the bottom- that is where I got the older version from
