I have found on pioneer euro site the new firmware for Pioneer A03.
Its 1.80. Did anyone else install it? I dont want to install it because i dont know any changes in 1.80 plus it said that once you installed 1.80 you cannot go back to the previous firmware.
Can anyone tell me the changes for it and if anyone installed it already?
Thank you.

Is that site American?
I wouldnt download Japanese drivers for an American drive.
You might get a drive set to region 2 permanitly. -
All drives get five changes in region before you are locked in. I would not worry about it.

If Pioneer wanted you to use 1.8 on your american drive, they would post it on the American site. They have not -- the newest version on the USA site is 1.68.
If you flash your drive to 1.8 and then you encounter a problem, Pioneer is not going to help you. Think about that -- a $400 paper weight, for what? -
I have upgrade yesterday, from this link
http://www2.pioneer-eur.com/pioneer/support_software.jsp?category=support/software to 1.08
Of course nobody could be shure on the result on a NTSC one. I refreshed it because I hadsome problem burning DVD with Nero and Sonic, so I belive.....but it is another story.
However this doesn't fixed itFrancesco Landi

I updated my DVR-A03 that I purchased in the U.S. to 1.80 that I got from the Japanese site.
The only difference I have seen is that I can now burn cheap DVD-Rs at 2x. This might have been possible under 1.68, but I don't recall whether I tried while I was using 1.68.
My burned DVD-Rs played just fine in at least 4 U.S. region DVD players. -
are you saying that you can burn cheap dvd-r's on 2x??????????!!!!!!!!!
I installed the 1.80 version and i'm still burning on 1x.
are you sure that you are burning @2x (4GB in less then 30 mins)
or is it just indicating 2x but actualy burning @ 1x???????
This would be unbelievable because pioneer said that they wouldn't adjust they're firmware for 2x burning on brandless dvd-r's.

I agree, chaseru is either mistaken or he's full of crap...I also updated my A03 to 1.80 and it still won't burn at 2X on unbranded media...of course it says it's burning at 2X, but it still takes nearly an hour to burn a full DVD whereas with branded media it takes under 30 minutes... -
OK, I'll make a more accurate determination of write speeds of my cd-recordable.com media tonight.
My previous indication that these cheap DVD-Rs were recording at 2x was based on a burning session where I recorded the same data on to Mitsui 2x media and cd-recordable media. Both types of media took about 30 minutes to burn. -
Here are my results:
4266MB burned using Nero 5.580 and Pioneer DVR-A03 firmware 1.80
35:02 cd-recordable.com 2x unbranded DVD-R
34:47 Mitsui branded 2x DVD-R -
