As the topic says. I am in somewhat immediate need of VLC's ability to record a live stream. I can get the stream to play, and I can even take "snapshots" and that function does create a single file. But hitting the record button does nothing. It goes "blue" as it's supposed to, but no file is created. Doesn't matter what drive or what path I specify. I've tried this with VLC 2.1.2, 2.2.0 and 2.2.1. There is nothing whatsoever to indicate that something has gone wrong (or right), which makes troubleshooting impossible. I have tried this on many different streams with many different qualities, including audio only. No dice.
Never mind. The problem ended up being the fact that video snapshots and video stream recordings are two separate settings, listed under two different categories (the latter being mis-categorized), and various guides are unavoidably unhelpful because the categorizations have evidently been changed several times across app revisions.

What is the solution?
I have always been able to record live streams with the record button. They are saved in my documents(C:\Users\username\Documents) folder for me.
