Hello and thanks for allowing me to post.

Basically, I have two issues I'm dealing with. I bought a JVC XA-2 to film trains running at high speeds.

Because this is a high speed capture cam, when I playback, the video looks fishbowled. I would like to eliminate that during editing.
Also, I want to be able to capture different snap shots from the video, pull them over to Office Picture Manager and edit them. That's all I need to do.

I am looking at CyberLink PowerDirect 13, but that looks like overkill for what I need. Im never going to make new videos out of old ones, or pics, etc.

Can anyone tell me a good editor to pickup to get rid of the fishbowl (panaramic) view on my vids and easily capture snapshots ?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Unfortunately, that fishbowl look is a feature of that camera. I quote from a review of your camera: "As with many action cameras, the lens has a pronounced wide-angle that distorts straight lines, although the large field of view is very useful in a camcorder that you won't be pointing as carefully as a handycam."

Go Pros have the same problem. There is software that can correct the fishbowl look. Photoshop can do it for snapshots and there are plugins for video editing programs. But that entails a whole new learning experience for you. I'm not sure Cyberlink can do it as I don't have that program.

OK thanks. So as a followup, is there another suggested cam I should be looking at that will film better for what I am doing even when the items are going at greater speeds?

  4. Since you have a JVC, look here for another that does better high speed video. http://newsroom.jvc.com/press-releases/camcorder/new-flagship-jvc-camera-designed-to-c...moving-action/

You can correct "Fisheye" (wide angle shots) in free video editors like Aviutl, Virtualdub and Avisynth. It's no big deal, just an adjustment filter.

It depends on which editor you use. For Virtualdub, search for and install the "Barrel Distortion" filter by Emiliano Ferrari. Very easy to use.
