  1. Anyone know the name of the file that contains the list of path which are executed when Windows launches explorer.

I'm not referring to the autoexec.bat as that is for Dos.

I know it exists because I edited it last year when there was a program loading that served no purpose. Well now I get the blue screen of death when windows is booting...Goback launches, then explorer, then usually a series of apps/progs (which open up in the system tray) launch, but when this last step should happen I get the damn screen: Windows | a fatal execption has occured.

Should I just reformat or try to find this file to see if sumthin if messed...If u think I should reformat, to what OS¿ I got a load of stuff to burn before I back up my HD otherwise backing up will take 4ever.

Also I can run windows (kinda crippled-like, as it seems not be using my 600MB+ of 133RAM and complains about memory when I run more than two 'real progs') by "end task"-ing on Explorer while it is the only thing in the End Task window. It closes and reopens without opening my other startup progs that run in background and system tray.

  2. type "msconfig" in the run bar. i think that's the easiest way in 98SE.
there are also listings in the registry (search for "run-" to find them) but this doesn't cover some programs.
