    I can load a tape into my RCA VHS VCR, but the play button doesn't work, not does the FF or RW. As you can see in the video demo below, the tape goes into and wraps around the head, but that's all that happens. Any ideas?

    Damage to the mechanism, eg. broken belt, clutch, etc,etc.

    Don't you have a repair shop you can visit for an evaluation & estimate ?

    Just go to your local thrift shop and buy a better used vcr for $5,much cheaper then bringing it to a repair shop,rca are junk and not worth repairing.

    Does it play when you put the lid on? I have repaired VCRs (Philips brands) that won't play (or FF/RES) if light gets into some of the interlock sensors.
