What commercial paid video editing software allows you to do slow motion, panning, zoom, and freeze frame effects?
I would rather pay $50 for a professional product that simply works, and does not require hours of plugins and .ini file mods to get working.
I don't want a free version, b/c they are often a nightmare to configure. (Aviutil is a total F'ing joke, to even just download and run, for example. It's literally Chinese. LMAO)

Can you name one that is popular and reasonable priced?
I just need to edit one video.

I like Adobe Premiere, you pay month to month,.
For the price of a couple of grande lattes a week you got it!
-
Or if you don't want a subscription based model, you could get Sony Movie studio, Cyberlink Power Director, many others.

If Premiere is $50/mo, does it make sense to buy outright something like Cyberlink for $50 total?
-
You be the judge, but it's kind of apples vs. oranges.
For individuals, Premiere is just one element of the whole pro suite which costs ~30/mo. That also includes, Ps, AE, Lr, Audition, etc. (as well as access to Encore CS6). This also ensures ~always-up-to-date versions on your system.
That Cyberlink isn't geared for Pros, but more like hobbyists, and is an all-in-one app. No dedicated fx/compositing, no photo editing, no audio-centric app, etc., just an app that does "a little bit of everything" simply. But what you get is what you will always have, no more (until you buy a newer model).

You can get older versions of Sony Movie Studio pretty cheap. But we don't really know what kind of video the OP is trying to edit. If it's 4k stuff then a later version of Movie Studio would be required. Of all the software mentioned above, I have found Movie Studio the easiest to learn. So many tutorials out there to help you.

Here is what I need to do:
I have a 3 mins. video.
My raw video is AVI. I work directly with that, right?
Is this a common format for editing?
Imagine a 3 person juggling act where there are times where 1 of them drops the balls. I can see 2 options.
1) When juggler 1 drops the balls, I want to zoom into the other 2, in order to "crop out" the juggler #1 who is picking up his balls. Once he's back, we zoom back out to all 3 jugglers.
2) Or, I am willing to "freeze" the frame for those 5-6 seconds where he's picking up the balls. The sound continues on, so it just looks like a streaming error, video is "paused" and then once the juggler is back in action, we go back to normal live action.
Again, to recap, I want parts of it my video blocked out. (Some kind of live cropping, zoomed into only part of the frame ....in order to "delete" the parts I don't want to see..) Or, have the video just "pause" to skip over the parts I want censored. (So, it looks like there is a delay/freeze)
How can I proceed? Not sure where to go.
I know how to do basic stuff like use AVIDemux, AVI Trimmers, Virtual Dub, etc
I am willing to learn how to do this, or pay someone to do it.
I have now installed AviUtil, but need to learn how to do the "zoom/crop" effect.
Any help? -
STOP SHITTING AviUtl everywhere in the forum!
It is your own computer problem.
Other users has it working out-of-the-box.

I have decided to buy a commercial editing program.
I have 2 concurrent videos (2 diff camera angles of same event) that I want to combine into 1 video.
One is AVI. The other is MPG.
I want to be able to switch between both shots.
I also want to be able to dim the entire video #1.
I can use an old version of something, right?
Where can I buy an old version of Sony Movie Studio?
I am running Win7. -
1) You loose resolution by zooming in,
2) That is common thing that you want to hide some faulty footage, it is done by replacing video track with some other video footage (viewers, details) where you leave original audio continuously running, ..., freezing solution is terrible
again grab any soft and try it, ... -
Try the trial of movie studio? Maybe it's enough for one time use...if it doesn't have any save/export video trial limits.
-
I can buy version 11 for $15. From 2010 maybe.,
That should handle my basic needs, right? -
So, Movie Studio is not going to work for me.
Looks like only Vegas Pro supports multi-camera editing.
Back to square one. -
Multicam editing is going to cost you more than $50.
You didn't mention that in your original post -- you also never mentioned $50 originally, so Newbpall's original correct answer looks foolish to new viewers. Don't do that to people.
If you want true multicam editing you have to stick with the good stuff. Vegas Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid, Edius, (Probably Resolve 12). Vegas Movie Studio, AViutl, Premier Elements and many others will let you use multiple video tracks that you can easily fake multicam switching with. -
Depends... I did THIS as a 6 track 'multicam' edit using freebies (Avisynth and Virtualdub) Appreciate the actual video may not be to everyone's taste
....
but it shows it is possible to do multicam without using payware! -
-
Not quite sure why you don't think my video is 'true multicam'?...... As with most 'music' videos, you simply record several versions of the whole thing, and then watch, select and mix the sources as required.
Actually recording different versions of an event in real time with several cameras only produces the same 'raw' results......several versions of the same thing to watch, select and edit into one mix.....Last edited by pippas; 11th May 2015 at 06:44.

pippas, I think we're getting into semantics here. I am in no way denying or invalidating the workflow you describe (and you did use quotes around 'multicam' yourself.)
The distinction I'm making is the "true" multicam process where sources are ganged as a source, viewed simultaneously and selectable on the fly to a single timeline. In practice , even "true" multicam editing usually involves some degree of mixing and matching other elements.

I see what you mean....... As you say, not for $50 then!
As an amateur, I was just playing around for fun. See if I could do a simple multicam mix without having to fork out cash for a new editor (the only commercial editor I have is a pretty old version of Edius Neo... which doesn't do multicam) -
Good distinction by smrpix.
Yes, I need "true" multicam, as I want to watch and select the active camera based on what I am seeing.
Just typing in time stamps would be a total nightmare.
What payware has "true" real-time multi-cam support? -
Edius -- Sony Vegas Pro -- Adobe Premiere Pro CC
All similar... but different!..... it's really whichever layout suits you best.....
(Too much money for me - which is why I use freebies to do the job - and deal with the 'nightmare' as you describe it)
