I use subrip and OCR in it to make .srt files from alot of my DVD's and have used .srt for many years.
I recently started doing Blu-Ray SUP files with SubExtractor and it saves them as .ASS with positioning and formatting just like on the Blu-Ray. I have grown to like .ASS subtitles.
Is there an easy way to take DVD IFO files and OCR them to .ASS like with the Blu-Rays and keep the positioning and format? Subextractor does not work with DVD IFO files and .srt from subrip does not keep same positioning of the text.
I know I can make .srt into .ass with Aegisub but then it wont have positioning and stuff saved.
Any good softwares to suggest me looking at?

You can extract VobSubs (IDX/SUB) and/or SUP files from a DVD. They have the positioning. I've never used SubExtractor before but it says it can convert VobSubs to ASS:
SubExtractor converts subtitles from DVDs and PGS (Bluray .sup) files into Advanced Substation Alpha (ASS) or SRT text format using a simple OCR. Extract subs from (non-encrypted, on hard drive) DVDs and convert to Advanced Substation Alpha format. It can also convert sup (PGS) and sub/idx formats to same.

It says subextractor can rip subtitles from a DVD but I have tried and cant get it to when an IFO is the only file I have to use. It doesn't work with .IFO like subrip does. If I could somehow get an SUP file from a DVD it would probly work with that program.
How do you get SUP from a DVD like I have been with Blu-Rays? It been easy to get a SUP from Blu-Rays with HD Streams extractor in MeGui but I never even seen a DVD give a SUP file, only IFO. -
It says it can convert subtitles from a DVD. There's a difference.
I don't think you understood. Subextractor doesn't work with the IFO. It works with the VobSubs. Extract them first (using VobSub Configure or whatever) and then run them through Subextractor to get ASS. At least that's what I understood from reading about the program. Heck, even when working with the Blu-Rays don't you have to extract the SUP files before you can convert them to ASS? Same idea with DVDs.
The SUP files you can extract from a DVD (using PGCDemux) are different from the SUP files from a Blu-Ray. I could be wrong but I wouldn't think Subextractor could work with them. -
Subextractor works wih both VIDEO_TS folder and IDX/VOBSUB files. You can use VSrip (or VobSub as mention) to get the IDX/VOBSUB and position is maintained.

And me, I don't have the patience to use Subextractor. I would use Subtitle Edit to OCR to SRT, change the format to ASS and apply any ASS tags/styles needed.
