hi is there any free video cutter / joiner that should support most video format, that should include uncommon formats like mkv...
online cutter / joiner takes too long to upload
as long as it cuts and joins and it's free, that's very good, nothing fancy or extra is expected

You get what you pay for. ALL the free editors are inferior to the paid editors.

I have VideoReDo TV Suite H.264, which is indispensable for editing recordings from my TV tuner devices and my HD capture device. It does minimal re-encoding and costs about $100. It is limited to MPEG-2 or H.264. It won't edit DivX or XVid AVI files.

TMPGEnc MPEG Smart Renderer 4 (about $70) is one of the least expensive editors that can edit many different kinds of files although not everything. It does minimal re-encoding. The specs don't say it can work with XVid or DivX AVI.

TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 can edit most kinds of video and audio and most kinds of container files (avi, mpg, ts, etc,), but re-encodes the entire file and costs about $100.

I agree you get what you pay for. SolveigMM Video Splitter is a lot like VideoReDo and I use both, with Video Splitter offering a portable version.
