I will be buying video edit software tomorrow. Have not decided what to buy yet.
Probably QuikTime Pro. Question is: When I get a new computer, or when my present computer breaks, will I be able to transfer the software to a new computer? Or would I have to pay again for the same software?
Im open to suggestions, my purchase does not necessarily have to be QuickTime Pro or Vegas or anything else.
But I do not want to lease software, like Adobe programs that you pay for a year and after the year you can no longer use it. I want to buy software that I can keep forever.
I will choose based on the information, recommendations I can find in this site and other information I may find in the next few hours of research.
Thanks

While QTPro is capable of doing editing, it is NOT an efficient "editing software" by any means, unless your idea of editing is to just chop off the head & tail of a clip. As editing software goes, QTPro is a 2 - 2 1/2 on a 10 point scale (it can handle multiple tracks & timebases, etc). Vegas Movie Studio is a 5 1/2, Vegas Pro is a 7 1/2. Big difference there. Not that QTpro is without merit - if you do much with QT MOVs, it is a helpful tool!
You should not think of any of your software as something you "keep forever". They're just tools and tools wear out & have only certain uses. When time has moved on enough, you will ultimately replace all your software, so I wouldn't try to think of them as eternal and inviolate. With that in mind, I also prefer to not "lease" or "subscribe" my software. But for certain things, it makes sense. Adobe CC and/or AVID/Digi is one of those exceptions for me.
You could always pick up a version of CS6 from ebay (assuming it's legit), or Amazon (which SHOULD be legit), Sweetwater, etc.

Thanks to Cornucopia for the answer
If I buy cs6, would i be able to use it in my current old computer and on a new computer I will be acquiring soon, after my old machine finally quits working? -
Depends on the old PC's OS, but transferring to the new one should be no problem.
