I don't know where else to post this. But surely by now you have all seen the "what color dress do you see?" Maybe at some point I will post back here with a link.
The debate is whether you see white and gold or blue and black. The actual dress is blue and black although it is more accurate to say the dress has black lace that allows some blue through. However, the photo that is generating the optical illusion for people is very badly exposed and some funky color correction was applied by the cameraphone algorithm.
To me this is a prime example of how to go about doing color correction in post. The way I see it, the background is clipping. So there is nothing you can do for white without causing more clipping. As for black there looks like there may be one spot in the background to key off of as true black. But other than that, this is a gamma issue. But if you don't perceive the dress as blue and black what would lead you to adjusting the gamma to more blue black versus more gold white? Are there other visual clues?

Too many of those pictures have been altered to mean anything...I have seen ones that are purple, green etc.
It has become really a mess of stupidity now.

It's just an optical illusion caused by a poorly exposed image (intentional or not) ...........

The color of something depends on how it reflects (or emits) light and what kind of light shines it is.
Not sure what the 'issue' is. -
...and on the (visual) context in which it is perceived! That's what the "issue" is.
