  1. Hi, I have a bunch of MKV files taken from a dvd recorder that play back with the incorrect aspect ratio on an xbox one.

I have been able to get round this by demuxing the file then using dvdpatcher to correct the aspect ratio on the entire file (mpeg2) before remuxing into an MKV.

Would there be an easier/quicker way of doing this? I noticed that mkvmergegui has an option to force the aspect ratio so would this give me the same result?

Also, with dvdpatcher is there any benefit to patching the full mpeg as oppose to just the header? Xbox One has a known issue with 16:9 being incorrectly displayed as 4:3 and offers no method to change it. I'm wondering if I patch the header only if that would be sufficient?

Have you TRIED change the aspect ratio with mkvmergegui? It might be enough.
