Video for Chinese audience

Hi all,

we are going to implement a plattform, supposed to a present
self produced Videos in a player for people in China. So we need a reliable
solution for files of medium/large size.
Can you recommend reliable solutions for video streaming, CDN
stuff like that , that would grant e.g. enough band width?
Which providers come into play here?
Amazon cloudfront, Chinese providers ...?
Other experiences or things to consider such as blocked hosts, firewalling etc...?

Well, let me be blunt: if you do not know the answers to those questions already your venture is already doomed. It would be like going into a jungle alone without training.

What you need to do if you are really serious about this project is to hire a few people who have vast experience in this field to get your operation started. I'd say start hiring three people at about $150k+ each and don't forget to give them shares or options, that way they will work hard to make your operation successful.

Don't bother. Anything that catches on will quickly be cloned and you have no copyrights in China.

You should worry about whether you can pass the censorship of The Chinese State Administration of Radio Film and Television if you want to stream your video via the main stream CDN website in China such as http://www.letv.com/, http://v.qq.com/. For main stream CDN website, they may considering buying your videos if your video is good enough. and people may pay to watch them. Many US drama and movies are paid to watch on those website. Hope the above said info would be helpful. If you just want to share your self-made video with people, you may use weibo (like twitter in china) or youku.com to upload your video, you may get more views. and your video will be shared quickly if it is interesting enough. Don't for get to put a watermark in your video if you shared it on the free video hosting website such as youku.com
