dvd played in vlc produces a blocky picture

If I try to play this dvd in vlc I get no picture only audio. If I play a vob the picture is very blocky and starts and stops.
Can't rip it also. First dvd since dvd's came out that I could not rip. Check picts, thanks.

WHat happens when you try different rippers like dvdfab decrypter, anydvd, dvddecrypter, etc?

Sounds like it's encrypted.

Its a store bought dvd. It will play in my bluray player. Tried handbreak in ubuntu and vidcoder in windows 7 both will not read disk.

Try a RIPPER. Not handbrake or vidcoder.

Yes. The majority of commercial DVDs are encrypted and need to be 'ripped' (usually to the HDD) before they can be format shifted.
Baldrick suggested some decryptors to try and there are free ones about such as TDMore Free DVD Copy you can use before converting with Vidcoder.
