I recently purchased a radio on ebay, it has absolutely no labeling, manufacture info, generic chinese car dvd. I did research and I feel like this radio will work perfect for me. I installed it an it seems to work good, however, I cannot get it to play video because there is something wrong with the parking brake wire. All I need is the code to access the hidden menu and I am sure I can set the radio to allow me to view movies or whatever. Its kind of messed up, I dont watch dvds while driving but as soon as I figured out it doesn't work I'm all about trying to fix it. I hgave contacted the seller and they are trying to get some info to fix it but I am still waiting for a response. The seller is autodvdplayers hong kong and the radio is a Sqaure S SS9080FX. Any help in figuring out a code to access the hidden menu would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldnt mind paying for the lock code, Im not sure who knows how to do it if anyone. I figure just holding down a few buttons might do it Im going to try it today holding dow all the buttons at the same time(???) It looks like you are thirsty for some canned meat, good luck with that!

I was going to stay out of this, but your 2nd post about being willing to pay for the lock code means that you seem to be making assumptions that may not be valid. Specialty players, which includes car players, portables, combo (DVD/TV, DVD/VCR) and home theater systems, almost never can be unlocked. Every player available does not have a magic unlock code. In fact, these days it's getting harder and harder to find them. Even some of the manufacturers that used to do this all the time are now cutting back severely on the practice. Most players, no matter what they are, can't be unlocked any more. There's no harm in you asking and I wish you luck, but the truth is that an unlock code may not exist at all for your player and there may not be a secret menu. Not to mention that since you bought it on Ebay that it may be defective.

I watched the video. I guess if someone wants to watch a review for the device that shows off the features it offers, the video serves that function. If someone wants to get into the hidden menu you asked about, and finds this thread, nothing you have posted here is likely to be of much help to them. Your earlier link in this thread doesn't provide a rar file with instructions for getting into the hidden menu and the video doesn't explain the process very well either. You got into the hidden menu very quickly somehow but in one place the screen looks blank, and it is very difficult to figure out what you touched on that screen. You should post some written instructions with the video.

I found it fairly easy to unlock my first couple DVD players. Nowadays it's a nightmare with Blu-ray. I bought one from a company which modded it and said it would be updatable and stay region free. They lied. The. They send me free downloads to fix it. How nice of them. Still annoying.

I am confident that alot of consumer electronics can be modified to serve us better.

And I agree, but it takes more than one person to reverse engineer the stuff and a lot of dedication or a manufacturer that's willing to leak source code. I can tell you that much of the early DVD hacking scene took a lot of the former, but real progress didn't happen until the latter. Same with all the satellite stuff except a competitor paid to have it done. Interest has moved away from disc players. Android devices are seeing the most development now. Also, there's all those neat SBC's that might get more of the younger crowd involved in hardware.
