Burn/Hardcode Embed Subtitles to MP4 ?

Hi, can i Burn/Hardcode Embed Subtitles to an MP4 movie?
or i need to convert to avi first? (extra quality loss )
ive found 2 software programs, xilisoft video converter and AVS video converter
and im able to add my subs and convert to avi aswell but i dont know if the subtitles are soft or will be permanent...
because i want to burn my movies to dvd.
can someone help me with the whole thing? i dont know about encoding etc please be kind.

Baldrick i had tried that but my subtitiles are greek and i had problem showing them :/ (weird characters u know)
although i changed the "engish language" from the drop-down menu..
