I have a few MKV video files and the audio is out of sync. I'd like to re-sync the audio and save them in exactly the same format. However, I'm having difficulty.
My files are:
Video - 1280x720x29.97 fps - SolveigMM Muxer Version 1.0.1208.2
Audio - 384 Kbps, 48.0 KHz, 16 bits, 6 channels, AC-3
I'm using VLC version 2.1.5 for conversion (Convert/Save).
For video, I've tried:
- Convert - H.264+MP3(TS)
- Convert - Video for MPEG4 720p
Then, I've tied:
- MPEG-TS
- MP4/MOV
- MKV
For audio, I've tried
- MP3 (2 and 6 channels)
- MPEG4 Audio(AAC) (2 and 6 channels)
- Keep original track
I've attempted many combinations of the above.
For video:
- When I try to convert to MKV, I get the warning "This muxer is not provided by VLC. It could be missing" I proceed anyway and the resulting conversion has no video.
- Both MPEG-TS & MP4/MOV work well.
For audio:
- When MP3 or MPEG4 (2 or 6 channel) are selected, I only get 2 channel audio but it is re-synced correctly.
- When "Keep original track" is selected, I still get 2 channels audio but it is not re-synced.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get both MKV & 6 channel audio re-synced?

Try MPC-HC. Open the MKV and use the "+" and "-" keys on the numeric keypad to adjust the audio delay as the video plays. When it's in sync (assuming the delay adjustment is consistent for the whole video and doesn't change as the video progresses) you can make note of the delay (positive or negative) in the status bar. Open the MKV with MKVMergeGUI, select the audio track, and under the "format specific options" section, specify the required delay. Click "start muxing" and save that as a new MKV.
I don't use VLC much myself so I don't know what it can and can't do.Last edited by hello_hello; 8th Dec 2014 at 12:13.

Hi hello_hello,
WOW! It works perfectly and MUCH easier than VLC and I have a synchronized MKV file with 6 channels!
I already had MKVmerge GUI installed but I didn't know that it could adjust the synchronization.
It is not only easy, it is blindingly fast. There are a bunch of files that need to be synced so this will save me a ton of time.
Thank you for the MPC-HC recommendation. I had been using VLC to adjust timing but MPC-HC is better since it adjusts timing in 10 ms increments as opposed to VLC which adjusts in 25 ms increments.
Thank-you so much!!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
