  1. Hey, my video playback is a bit choppy (like 15 fps instead of 24) and I can't figure out why My PC is quite good i5 2500k 4,5GHz and GTX 970, I used to have R9 290 and it was fine so I think it has something to do with my recent hardware change (I also bought additional monitor, making a total of 3). I played around a little bit with the Playback -> Output options and it seems that changing DirectShow video to "Video Mixing Renderer 7 (renderless)" or "Enhanced Video Renderer" solves the issue but it won't allow for subtitles... I also tried disabling internal filters and different codecs (ffdshow and LAV) nothing helped. Any ideas? Thanks.

  2. The first thing I'd try is going into MPC-BE's options and using the reset button (under Miscellaneous) to see if that fixes the problem, and if so you can reconfigure it from there.

"Video Mixing Renderer 9 (renderless)" or "Enhanced Video Renderer (custom presenter)" should both let you view subtitles.

Try going into the Nvidia control panel and disabling everything.... any video enhancing stuff etc..... to see what happens.

Try MPC-HC instead to see what happens.

I don't use it much but I think MPC-BE displays "GPU" on the navigation bar near the volume thingy on the right when it's using GPU decoding. Is "GPU" shown? Is it certain types of video/codecs, or pretty much anything?

You might even try older/newer video card drivers. Nvidia's drivers can be a bit hit and miss at times. I haven't updated them for a few years as I'm not a gamer and the drivers I'm using work fine (I'm running XP). I tried newer drivers a while ago but that seemed to do very odd things to the luminance levels so I went back to the old drivers.

    Just some thoughts....

  3. MPC-BE is my default player. Using EVR custom should solve your problem.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

The reason I switched from MPC-HC to MPC-BE was because of choppy video, I only did it to see if it helps but no luck. Resetting settings doesn't help, I've been using it on stock settings since forever only thing I disable are controls and menu bar, only started to fiddle with the settings once it broke. "Video Mixing Renderer 9 (renderless)" and "Enhanced Video Renderer (custom presenter)" both allow for subtitles yes, and as far as I remember the latter was set as default for me but they both have the choppy video problem. MPC-BE does have the "GPU" text near the volume controls, as for the codecs.. Honestly only thing I use and am interested in getting to work properly are Matroska files, and these are choppy, tried a couple of wmv and they seem fine. As for the drivers.. I'm using GTX 970 which is pretty new only a few video drivers were released for them and I bought it at release date so can't really try any older drivers because I've been using the oldest there are, I believe first ones that support 900 series are 344.16 and we are only at 344.75 (I don't remember it working properly ever since I bought the new card). Anyway I installed PotPlayer and the issue seems to be solved for the most part, because the videos are fine when the PotPlayer window is selected, but when it's playing in the background it can still lag quite a bit, which in itself is annoying because I can't do anything else on my PC or I get a choppy video...

  5. I'm out of ideas aside from maybe disabling hardware decoding to see what happens. Hardware decoding is only supported with some renderers (ie VMR9 and EVR). If you go into MPC-BE's options and under Internal Filters, then the Video Decoders tab, try unchecking anything in the list with "DXVA" next to it, and restarting the player.

Is it all the time or just when displaying subtitles? If it's the latter, under Subtitles/Rendering in Options, try unchecking "allow animation when buffering".

  6. No its even with no subtitles, just with renderers supporting them. I already tried disabling hardware acceleration as mentioned in another similar thread but unlike for the other guy it had no effect for me.
