I have some video transferred from film which I made years ago with stop-frame animation. The camera wasn't too good so the brightness of the picture varies from frame to frame giving a flickering effect. Is there any software available which will eliminate this brightness variation, making each frame the same brightness?

After Effects has a color stabilize effect.

Thank you. Where can I find Donald Grafts deflicker plugin, and will it work with Virtual Dub?

That deflicker plugin works really well. Job done. Thank you all for your suggestions.

Watch out for ghosting -- ghosts of nearby frames, especially in low contrast areas. Any chance you could upload a sample of your flickery source?

tal 93 new is the unprocessed clip, tal 93 b laun is the deflickered version. There was some long term brightness change half way through which I had to fix manualy. As you see it jumps around a lot - I shall give it Deshaker next.

It wouldn't upload because the files are too big. I'll cut the clip up

Too big? How large is the file? Is it uncompressed? the site allows 500MB files (but 1GB files have been uploaded before)
If it's uncompressed you can zip it up, or 7zip, winrar etc... -
how do you upload clips? I've tried drag and drop, click upload. etc

OK I missed the upload button in the upload panel. Here's the shortened un-deflickered clip. It looks much better after deflickering. Now it needs deshaking, then dirt removal.
