Handbrake and Windows 8.1

I can't get Handbrake to work on my new computer. It won't scan the DVD and a huge error notice comes up. Anyone else having this problem? I am not a computer wizard, so, if you can help, pleas make is very simple. Thanks!

Last I heard Handbrake couldn't decrypt DVDs.

MakeMKV it, or DVDFab it, or AnyDVD it, or even DVDShrink it if you must...

THEN Handbrake it.
