Hello,
What is the best way to "capture" from LaserDisc or PVR to PC, using the HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition PLUS?
I have installed the software, connected the devices, video or audio...followed instructions from quick install guide.
Thanks for your time & effort

Use the normal video out and don't use the S-video connection. Several of our members have posted in the past that there's a technical reason why using the S-video connection on a laserdisc player actually leads to a worse picture, but I don't remember what it is. If you can get the optical connection (if your player has this) to work, you can use that for audio, otherwise use the red and white audio output jacks from the player. Recording at a high bit rate is a good idea for both audio and video. If you have other questions, you'll have to be more specific.

Reason is, Laserdisc stores a standard Composite signal (unlike VHS for example which stores basically a reduced bandwidth image of it with separate Luma and Chroma). So by using the S-Video output of the Laserdisc player you are relying on the quality of it's comb filter. By using Composite out you get what's on the disc and it's up to the connected device to separate the Composite signal (results greatly vary, of course, it's possible for the LD player to have a better comb filter than the capture device).
Yes, try to use a bitrate as high as possible. -
Unlike the Hauppauge Colossus, the Hauppauge HD-PVR2 USB devices don't come with a composite and S-Video A/V adapter cable. It is necessary to buy one separately.
This adapter is for the HD-PVR2 USB versions with the round analog A/V port: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/webstore2/webstore_av_cable_hvr2250.asp
This adapter is for the HD-PVR2 USB versions with the flat analog A/V port: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/webstore2/webstore_avcable-svideo.asp
[Edit] One of the component connections on the component AV cable might work for composite too. You will have to try the red, blue, and green video connections separately to find out, if you don't already know which one to use. S-Video requires one of the adapters I linked to above.Last edited by usually_quiet; 23rd Nov 2014 at 13:27.
