I've given up (for now) my quest for free software to edit out commercials from 1080i .TS videos captured with my Hauppauge HD PVR2 1512. Too many problems.

So instead I'd like to find a software that can insert "jump to" markers in either H.264 TS files or MP4 files. Then I could place markers at the "end" of commercials and while viewing just press the SKIP key on my remote control to bypass commercials.

Is there any free software that can do that?

Add chapters? Maybe with mp4box or a gui for it like yamb.

Or remux to a mkv and add chapters with mkvtoolnix (mmg).

Will mp4box with the yamb gui place chapter marks and save without re-encoding .TS or .MP4 files?

Or remux to a mkv and add chapters with mkvtoolnix (mmg).
    Will this method involve re-encoding?

    Thanks,

Nope, no re-encoding using either mp4box or mkvtoolnix.

Your video player must also support mp4 or mkv chapters.

Turns out that I won't have to try to add chapter markers to skip commercials after all. I saw a recommendation to try "Video to video converter", and it worked well when removing commercials from a 2 hour movie. If I have problems with V2VC later, I'll re-visit adding chapter markers again but for now, I'll be removing commercials using V2VC.

    Thanks for the help,
    mks
