    Hello,

I am trying to follow the steps laid out in other posts but it seems I am not smart enough to even follow simple instructions.

I want to download a series from PBS ... 3 videos up now, 3 more coming, total of six.

    So ...

    First try ...

I went to the site http://video.pbs.org/video/2365347263/

From firefox menu ....tools .... web developer .... then I hit the "network" tab

I have looked (in the "file" column) all through this information .... maybe I have missed it but I can't see the m3u8 file ... or lines ... or ????

Maybe I just don't know what I am looking for?????

    I also tried ffmpeg -i http://video.pbs.org/video/2365347263/

This gave me a response of "invalid data found when processing input"

    I then tried livestreamer http://video.pbs.org/video/2365347263/

From this I got "error: no plugin can handle URL: http://video.pbs.org/video/2365347263/

I was hoping one of these could tell me what is available for download.

    So I am stuck.

I know someone can give me the code for ffmpeg or livestreamer ( and that would be greatly appreciated ) but I want to understand how you first find the files to download.

    Thanks .... Mike

For this particular video, there is no need for firefox network tab, ffmpeg, or anything else besides an ordinary browser in regular mode. If after reading the other thread you still don't understand, I suppose the steps could be listed again in this thread.

WOW ... I was making things way to difficult.

I thought I had read the post you pointed out but obviously I missed something.

I made the very bad assumption that I always needed to use ffmpeg ( or some other program ) to download any stream that does not come up in my "simple hit the button add-on".

I will read over the post again!

It must be downloading ... bar says 26 min left, then I will be able to check it.

Thanks so much! My brother and I grew up watching the "connections" series (we still talk about it). This series seems to be very similar to it.

Ok ... so I thought it was just me but I have two people here with me ( both with university degrees ... both smarter than me ) ... we are all dumb as dirt!

We tried step by step to follow the post you suggested we read.

First we disabled flash ( easy ).

    Restarted firefox.

    We went to the a new video ... ( glass ... http://video.pbs.org/video/2365351977/ ).

Without flash or signing in, a low quality video comes up.

We put the mouse on the center and right clicked .... "About JW Player 6.10.4906 (Ads edition)" ... is all we get.

We tried this both with and without signing in.

We also tried this on two different computers.

Your code worked perfectly .... I put in into the browser and simply saved the video ... perfect!

Sooooooooo ... now three of us are confused ( and we admit, dumb as dirt).

What we don't understand is how you got this line of code to enter into the browser?

I guess what we are confused about is how you jumped from this http://video.pbs.org/video/2365347263/ to this

    http://ga.video.cdn.pbs.org/videos/pbs-indies/8c8f4102-9cd0-4e42-8f3a-fa740cb21e4a/154...-mp4-2500k.mp4

Again, the right clicking did not work for us and we again tried to look under "file" in the network area (tools, web developer, debugger ... network) but we didn't see an mp4 file ( or an m3u8 .... which we are lead to believe contains a manifest of available videos on the site).

Can you please let us know what we are doing wrong?

Thanks so much ..... Mike ( and friends ).
