    I downloaded AviUtl_ExtraPack1-7[Win7]Release

and tried to use it but I get three error messages one after the other:

. can't start becaue d3dx9_43.dll is missing try reinstall..

. procedure entry point_crtCreatSymbolicLinkW could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR110.dll

. can't start because OpenCL.dll is missing try reinstall

    I also installed:

    Dot net fx40_client_setup.exe

    vcredist_x86.exe

    but it didn't help.

Even though I get a couple of screens up that look like the prog I'm thinking maybe I've just got the English 'skin' and no actual prog.

Is that it? Or what? How do I fix?

Installation? I just extract the files.

I also get the point_crtCreatSymbolicLinkW error but I can still use it.

It's okay. I installed the .dll's and direct x and now it happily goes about its business... I've made one file, now I'm trying to see if I can do that original thing I wanted - kill one audio track and add another...

the one file I made i added an audio track to a file that didn't have one.. worked okay but only VLC plays it without a bit of stuttering...

Hmmm. yes. bit complicated isn't it? can't see where to delete or silence a sound track. Can't even see the sound track on a timeline or anything...

need a bit of a learning curve and some research maybe... back to vdub in order to get something done tonight....

  4. point_crtCreatSymbolicLinkW:
It's the first time I see this report. See if installing VC2012 redist (x86) helps.

.NET: get 4.5.1, this version can replace .NET 4.0-4.5 anyway.

OpenCL: A part of your video driver and DirectX, only used in QuickSyncVideo Encoder.

Audio on the timeline have its own object(red bar). You may have to add the audio object manually.

If you are in a hurry, use other software familiar to you. AviUtl needs a moderate learning curve.
(at least 1 month before one can get into serious production)

There are two tutorial threads inside the "Editing" board and there is another on my blog:

Well thanks for that, Maverick, if it was addressed to me rather than to Baldrick.

But as I said I'm doing alright. After installing the dll's and direct X everything went okay.

But learning curve, yes, I can believe that. I couldn't see how to deal with sound tracks so I've had to go back to VDub for a while, just to get something done. I'm getting there slowly. Have to crack the annotation thing next and then the subtitles and then I'll have all the skills I need to do the little I want to do.

And if I can get even more skills like fancy video effects and such because of good software like I think you're saying aviutil is then that's all to the good.

meanwhile stuff like this is all I can make and it'll do for a start: http://youtu.be/EhIb3bXxraE

As the distributor of the AviUtl package, I do care about the DLL dependency hell very much. Since new users may complain if something doesn't work, but the problem cannot be reproduced on my machine. So if no one reports such problem, I may not notice it.

P.S. The objective lens of stereo mic is usually 4X or 10X fixed. I guess yours is 4X.

    Hi, thanks for the post.

It's great. I watched one of the youtube vids - lesson number 2 or something - and got the idea. It's very much like still picture photoshop in it's operation, isn't it? All layer oriented. And the heart of the thing is that 'layer screen' or whatever you call it.

That's where we build everything and that's where my missing audio track is to be found (once I drag and drop it in there).

I think it's going to be great.

Thanks for the clue about my stereo mic. So with a 10x ocular I'm getting 40x.

It is amazing what we can see at that low magnification, I think. Staggering. I used to think it was nothing and you didn't get into anything real until you went to compound. Changed my mind. They are both great. Doing different jobs is all.

So 40x. I can't think of a way to test that. I don't suppose it matters much but I'd like to know. If there is a way. Do you know of one?

    regards,

    ab

Actually you can estimate the magnification with a simple tool: a thin transparent ruler

View the ruler under the mic and take a picture, or just by gut instinct you may tell the magnification

I think I've found a better way. Divide the length of the tube by the focal length of the objective lens.

Just roughly I can see you're right at 2x. The focal length I can see and could even measure carefully if I wanted ( not necessary ) - just from the lens to the object.

the length of the tube would be from the lens up to the elbow and then around it up to the eyepiece lens.

    Quite clear it's 2x.

So that means I'm looking at things at only 20x with the 10x eyepiece. It's wonderful what I see just with that. I must try to get a set of 15x eyepieces maybe?

    p.s.

    How's Hong Kong nowadays?

    Ever since 1997.

This is getting off topic and may get political, so i'll suggest to stop here.

    Yeah, right. sorry.

Ran into a problem, though. Can't get the 'layers' window.

Found this that seems to say you can't do it in english: http://studiokai.wordpress.com/2012/09/28/how-to-use-aviutl/

That page was created in 2012, before I've started the AviUtl i18n project(2013 summer), so just skip it unless you can read Japanese.
What you can find about AviUtl before 2013 September certainly have a Japanese UI for the NLE, while there a few resources that utilized the English or Chinese version of AviUtl-Base.

Just before you bump into problem, I need to alert you that FX and project files created with the EN version is INCOMPATIBLE with the original JP version.
