  1. Hi,

I've been tasked by my partner to convert a bunch of video8 tapes to digital/DVD. I picked up a second hand video8 camcorder and she got an Honestech VHStoDVD kit on sale and I've managed to get all footage in mpg 720*576, 8000+224 kbps.

Since each tape consists of multiple clips of different events, I have been through and logged all relevant timings for required clips as well as "dead" space with the aim of splitting (lossless) the files into individual chapters for compilation on dvd.

In Avidemux 2.6.8 x64 I loaded one of the main clips, and using the A/B markers marked out each required section one at a time, and added to the job queue with the same job/project name and different filename for each clip. Using "Copy" for the audio and video streams and Mpeg-PS Muxer (ff) with a Muxing format of "DVD"

When I open Avidemux Job Control (64 bits), the jobs appear in the queue, and when run, appear to run OK. However the files that are produced are all identical i.e. the same clip is output 3 times.

I have tried reverting to version 2.5.3 x64 (clean install) with the Job List, since there seems to be more information on the web, but each time I attempt to add a job/clip to the list, the application crashes. The jobs are added to the list but all fail immediately when run.

Is there something I'm missing in the queue setup that would solve this, or is it a bug I'm seeing? or maybe someone can recommend a toll better suited to the job.

    Cheers
    Matt

How does it work if you cut each clip manually and file save? The queue is probably not that good for cutting.

Try also the 32bit version of 2.5.3.

Or else try a better mpg editor like videoredo or tmpgenc mpeg editor. But they aren't free.

I'll give it a try and get back to you.

  4. I got hold of the older version and, ignoring good scientific test practice and controls, I repeated the procedure but using a different "Job Name" for each queued file; I was using the same "Job Name" but different "Output File" name previously i.e. I regarded the complete video file as a Job with each extracted video clip an Output File. This worked fine, so I reinstalled v2.6.8 x64 and was able to get that working too. So the clue is to use a different "Job Name" for each clip you want to extract.

    Thanks for pointers
