  1. Hi all, can anybody please help me capture some video from my camera.
I have a Sony HC30e connected to my PC with firewire.

It's all connected but my PC does not recognise anything has been plugged in.

Previous to this I had no firewire ports on my PC so I bought a PCI card with 4 firewire ports on, it installed automaticaly using drivers from WindowsUpdate. It appears in device manager as working ok.

I can't get my PC to recognise a camera is connected, It's driving me crazy can somebody help before the camera goes out of the window, thanks.

For a start, I would install the drivers that come with the card and not rely on Windows own drivers.

Some extra info would help - make/model of your mainboard (if you know it) and, the make/model of the pci card.

And follow the installation instructions to the letter. Sometime, even with a pci card, the drivers must be loaded BEFORE the card in inserted in the slot.

If you have other available slots you should also try those.

  3. thanks for your reply, my main board is an ASRock K10N78FullHDhsli.
The only reason I used windows drivers is that no cd came with my pci card and it is unbranded, its this here.....

I could try a different pci slot, or it might be a dodgy cable but I've no other firewire devices to test it on. The cable just cost me £20 from Maplin.

So you spend a fiver on an un-branded card and £20 on a cable which you could probably have had for £2 on ebay ?

That really must be an old mb not to have a single firewire port. Also check that the card is firmly set in the board. If it is slightly untrue that may be enough not to communicate.

It may also be a chipset issue on the mb especially if that has via chips.

I suggest that you contact the seller of the card on how you obtain the proper drivers for it.
