  1. Ok, i'm no amateur at this, i've fixed plenty of AIW problems over the years. however, this one's new to me. when i install MMC 7.5/DVD 5.0 under win2k, i get an error that says "WDM listings not in registry". i have more than my share of ATI WDM junk in device manager (TV tuner, crossbar, MVD codec, rage theater, PCD, etc). i'm running drivers 5.13.1.3279, ATI AIW 128 Pro AGP, rage theater, athlon 900/ Asus A7V133, and a delta 12x dvd.

when i try to install DVD 5.0, it fails the checks, but installs anyhow . when i go to play a dvd, though, it gets choppy, and i get no video. i've taken apart and reinstalled it, but i don't know what registry entries i'm missing. if anyone has a fix for this, please let me know.

    thanks

  4. Patrick,

I have been wondering the same thing. I own an Athlon 1 GZ, an AIW 128 (PCI), a soundblaster live card and I am running Windows XP (I have installed the latest drivers from ATI for my AIW card). I get the same diagnostic when testing the ATI DVD 5.0 player in the control panel (i.e. WDM listing not in registry).

However, in my case, it does not affect playback. (Actually, the only problem that I have under DVD 5.0 is unrelated to yours: I cannot select the option to "passthrough the audio to the Spdif" (Dolby Digital) output).

Sorry that I could not be of more help. (Can you please post your solution if you find out the answer to your question).

    Thanks,

    YG

P.S. Can you please post your solution if you find out the answer to your question).

Did you notice the teeny, tiny link they have there now? They've separated the WDM drivers from the video drivers, and in turn separate from the MMC download and DVD download! (I currently have the newest, broken, Radeon drivers, MMC 7.6, but no DVD prog... and the new separate WDM drivers)...

I bet it's set up that way for ATI 128 also... look for the teeny, tiny link.

  6. hey, that's a good point. i noticed that the other day, but since i don't have a radeon or xp, i didn't bother. i'm still using the 128 Pro drivers. and while i hesitate to mix any of ati's stuff, the rage theater is the same chip on both, so it may actually work...

  7. 1.Don't install mmc that is on ati web site, instead try the one that is much bigger in size- about 42 MB rared!- it's a cd structure with DVD 7.6 and I can't find out how an installation that requires at least 60-70MB of data files could be resized to ~10MB so I have not tried MMC from ati site.
DVD 7.6 has some enhancements over previous versions but in my opinion for dvd playback powerdvd xp is the best and it plays almost everything and it also uses you card power to decode dvd.
2.first install the latest wdm drivers, before restart the newest video driver, then restart your pc and install 43MB MMC 7.6.
3.I think system compatibility check in control panel has a problem, something that is called a bug!, don't trust it.
4.You should clean installl all of these or completely after removing old drivers and mmc.
5.for a complete removal of ati stuff try this link: http://www.pcphotovideo.com/ati.htm

  8. I forgot to say that DVD 7.6 is included in the bigger MMC, not a separate install.

  9. I installed the 42 MB program. I can now select the S/PDIF signal (Dolby digital) option but it's completely out of sync with the Video. I am not having this problem if I select the "downmix to two channels" option. (The passthrough to S/pdif (Dolby Digital) option works on other DVD players that I have). The ATI/Cinemaster programs has a very good image quality (better than other programs I find). Unfortunately the Dolby Digital audio doesn't work for me. Also, the DVD player sometimes plays in black and white. I just have to restart it for it to play in color. Not a huge problem but it's a bit annoying.
