  1. Any recommendations for a website similar to Videohelp which has similar help quality for Android device users?

I have an el-cheapo tablet that has a quirk I'd like to solve, if possible. (And the mfr's help is poor at best.)

  2. I've been looking also and have found none that are specific to video stuff. But, this one, the best one I found so far, may be helpful. You will have to look on that page for your tablet and ask there. I have found that answers usually come in an hour or so. (if your question is answerable)

    Maybe: http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/

Or try a internet search for ' android tablet forums '

I have a really cheap 8" tablet myself, a Kocaso, but I haven't had much time to play with it.

What brand do you have and what's the 'quirk'? Someone here might be able to give you
more advice. Android is a very popular operating system.

If its specifically a video playing problem reencoding maybe the only solution.

Try a sample out on the lowest h264 profile.

You may also need to hardcode subtitles if you have an ancient tablet that won't support a player that will handle subtitles.

Absolute worst case try old divx and mp3 audio in a avi container.
Barring that you might even have to sacrifice more and convert to vcd.

Its a two part deal - horsepower and CPU architecture. If its a MIPS nothing works with it these days. And if you less than a gigahertz of CPU you'll probably struggle with 720p video, forget 1080p.

I think it was MIPS. I had an old android 2.x tablet that would hardly run any major app because it wasn't an arm processor.

These days though I think all off brand models are at least dual core and can probably sideload apps. At least aptoide and amazon and other third part app stores should work if you don't have play store access.

Of course I did root my previous tablet so I could get the play store on it.

I now have a Google nexus 7 with a 1.5ghz guadcore processor so I have no issues doing anything. I can even do 10bit h264 and h265 video with the bsplayer.

Honestly it was worth the money because I don't have any hassles or compromises. I can do whatever I want.

I would recommend saving up for a quad core tablet. I would also make sure it has play store access out of the box.

I hope these tidbits help somebody.

The nexus 7 is my third android tablet and my favorite.

And I never rooted my nexus. I even upgraded to kitkat out of the box and got the June update with no hassles.

FYI I bought mine new in store in February or so of this year.

  5. We really don't know the exact problem the OP has do we? Until he responds with that info, we can't help more.

  6. As requested, more information on the quirks, NOT directly related to video:

o SuperSonic SC-75JB (inexpensive 7" All Winner A-10 CPU. Android 4.1.1--Yes, the version susceptible to Heartbleed!).
    -- 512mb RAM
    -- 4gb internal storage
-- Microsd slot into which I have placed a 16gb card, which the system recognizes.
-- Micro-USB port. It is possible, using an adapter, to connect a thumb drive, which the system recognizes and will allow user to play various videos without difficulty.

    o Looking at "Settings/Storage," I see:
    --"Internal Storage . . . Total space 0.98gb . . . Apps 700mb . . . Available 187mb"
    --"Internal Storage [again] . . . Total space 1.52gb . . . Apps 442mb . . . Audio 180kb . . . Available 22.70 mb [The math of that doesn't work, does it?!] . . . Erase SD card . . "
    --"EXTSD . . . Total space 14.9GB . . . Available 14.89GB . . . Unmount SD Card"
--"USBHOST1" [which shows capacity if a thumb drive is mounted]

    o In "File Manager":
-- "Internal Storage": Only folder shown is "sdcard." All other Android operating files are inside that folder. I'm surprised by that folder name, unless the tablet simply uses an sdcard as its internal storage device. I'd have to crack the case to determine that, which I'd prefer to avoid, but am not 100% opposed to doing so.
-- "External Sdcard": Shows the installed 16gb microsd card with one directory "extsd" with one file (which I sideloaded) and the empty LOST.DIR directory Android creates.
-- USBHOST1 icon [nothing attached, so nothing shown]

o Quirks (or so it seems to be to me):

--When trying to move apps to the installed microsd card, the option often available for apps so designed, the system seems to move them only to the 2d "internal storage" category and never to the actual microsd card.
-- With NO apps shown as being on the external/inserted microsd card, if I unmount the card, many of the apps need to be reinstalled, the ones I tried unsuccessfully to move to the microsd card, but seem to end up in the "2d" internal storage.
-- The same thing happens if I mount/unmount the USBHOST1 thumb drive: Same apps need to be reinstalled, yet they were *never* part of the "move to SD card" process; i.e., the USBHOST1 thumb drive was not installed.
-- Those "reinstalls" don't seem to require a full reinstall, because previous settings are often preserved and restored, even though the tablet can't find the app after the unmounting of either storage option.

o My experience of "moving apps to SD card" has been limited to an EVO 4g smartphone (Android 2.3), so maybe I'm just seeing normal behavior for a tablet using a later Android version? Doesn't seem plausible, though, especially in light of the "math problem" I cited.

o Contacting Supersonic's tech support is met with great difficulty because there doesn't seem to be much comfort with English.

Any experiences or suggestions always appreciated from VideoHelp members.

For navigating you might try android file manager or es file explorer. They might be more logical than the tablets built in explorer. Other that I don't have any suggestions.

Oh you do know the OS will take up some storage space right? I'm sure you do just mentioning it.

  8. Oh you do know the OS will take up some storage space right? I'm sure you do just mentioning it.
Yes, I do realize that (thanks for the reminder!) but, if I understood a response to my question on androidcentral.com, it's news to me that "moving to SD card" doesn't mean moving to the SD card inserted into the SD card slot. That means moving it to another part of the internal memory.

If that is true, then the unmounting of either the "inserted" SD card or an attached USB thumb drive causing the "moved to SD card" apps to require re-installation doesn't seem logical.

  9. You are correct. You need to be sure which SD card you are targeting. On my Android tablet the external SD card is clearly labeled ExtXDCard when looking at it in a file directory.

  10. When the option is given to "move to SD" for an app, I don't see an option as to *where* to move it. The system just moves it automatically and it's not to the "inserted" (external) SD card.

I'm still looking for an answer to why those "reinstalls" are required after unmounting storage (external SD card and/or USB-connected thumb drive).

    "Is a puzzlement."
