  1. I would just like to know if I can do the following:
Lets say I want to make a SVCD from a 1h 50m long movie, the last 8 m is the credits, and that I want to save bitrate on the credits from higher bits on the movie it self.
    I'll put the movie on 2x80min cd's. I say that bitrate the credits must average 2-pass VBR at 700kbps video + 160kbps audio = 860kbps video+audio.
    (860kbps/8)*8m*60s/1024=50,4mb.
That leaves (787,5mb*2)-50,4mb=1524,6mb for the movie.
I when will encode it at (1524,6mb/((110min-8min)*60s)*1024*8=2040kbps including audiostream 160kbps. 2040kbps-160kbps=1880kbps 2pass VBR
After encoding I'll add the credits to the end of the movie.
    Split it at around 787,5mb.
Would this work on a standalone DVD-player that support SVCD (and xSVCD)? If so is there an easier way to do it. And howto split a SVCD at specific number of mb?

  2. Why not just get rid of the credits and encode the movie at an even higher bitrate?

  3. Because some of my friends, too whom I make the movie, seems to think that the credits have to be where. Other wise I must likely would have, even though it sometime is nice to have.

  4. I think you have the right idea.

I have put several movie files on to one vcd, and they have been of differeing configurations (date rates, sound, etc.).

Just have the movie be the first file, and the credits the second file.
they will play seemlessly on your player.
    (well, they do on mine).

If your making a svcd why not just use vbr encoding? The encoder should only use a minimal amount of bitrate on the credits accomplishing exactly what you want.

If you don't want to wait for the extra time vbr encoding takes, even though the quality increase is definitely worth it, simply use the manual vbr mode in TMPGenc. Pick whatever bitrate you want for the movie and where the credits start lower the bitrate to whatever you want. Encoding like this should be about as fast as cbr.

  6. I want to use VBR and do so often. It just seems like when I'm using VBR the credits get more bits when it should have.
It was just an idea, I want more control

Well personally for both cce and TMPGenc my credits never use more than 500kbits and usually are more like 300kbits, which is low enough in my opinion.

In cce its really easy to customize certain parts of your movie. Do a cbr encode and then when you do the vbr encode go into advanced settings and you can alter how the bitate is distributed manually.

My guess is that you are probably using TMPGenc though, so this is not possible. Personally what I'd do is make two encodes and have the credits fade in. Then I'd put them as two different tracks. They won't play seamlessly but with the fade in you won't notice it.

If you want to actually join the mpgs thats fine too and yes it will work fine on a svcd compatible dvd player. Use bbmpeg to cut by mb's. Its in the tools section and the guide on how to use it is in the edit link.

  8. I don't think my CPU is supportet by CCE 2.5 it just crashes after I press encode. I've also tryed 2.6x when using 3-pass after it reaches 33% I just goes on forever without finishing but still using 99% CPU.
My CPU is a AMD Duron 700 MHz
    I'm running win2k sp2

Yes cce requires a p3 or athlon.

  10. B.S.

CCE 2.62 works perfectly on my Duron 1.0gHz. I've done up to 6-pass VBR on a three hour movie w/ ZERO problems.

Sorry, 2.5 doesnt support Durons. Later versions do but the encoder itself is very buggy. Hamsolo, make sure you don't use cce to encode audio. I know this crashes the encoder with Athlons and I wouldn't be suprised if it did it with Durons as well.

  12. Ahh, that makes sence. I'll go home and try version 2.6x with video encoding only
and use tolame to encode audio from TMPGEnc.
Then mux and cut in bbMPEG, (if it work)
