6 channel WAV to PCM 5.1 16bit on DVD?

Hi all,
I'm making a DVD-Video disc which specifically must have a PCM audio track using 6 channels at
16-bit with no video (i.e. black screen) from a 6-channel WAV, has anyone been
able to compile a DVD with such PCM track? I have tried DVD-authoring
software like DVD-lab and Sony's DVD Architect Pro but they don't seem to support
PCM 5.1. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know PCM audio can't be more than 2 channels on DVD-Video or it violates the standards, which is probably why the tools you used won't let you do it.

You might be able to get away with this if you make a DVD-Audio disc as I think that format does support multichannel WAV files. You have to put something up for the video either on DVD-Audio or DVD-Video, but it can be a simple one frame picture if your authoring program supports this. The problem with DVD-Audio is that almost no players support the format.

6-channel .WAV at 16-bits at 48kHz = 4608kbps
MAXimum audio bitrate for DVD-video = 6144kbps

Not sure if you can find a SAP which will swallow that, though.

yeah, I've been thinking that the bitrate for 5.1 16bit PCM shouldn't exceed DVD's PCM
audio specs so I thought it could be possible. Thanks for the suggestion, El Heggunte.

Interesting. I stand corrected.

You're still going to have to put SOMETHING to display while the audio plays though. And I suppose there is always the possibility that some players may choke on that audio and refuse to play the disc even though it's apparently legal.
