  1. Well this happens while trying to encode large mpeg files from either divx or dvd vob's, my computer shutsdown. I don't get any stop errors or nothing it just shuts down. Any ideas as to what may be causing my little dilemma here?

  2. Click the "Start" button and go into "Control Panel" then "Display." Select the "Screen Saver" tab and click the "Settings" button for Energy Saver features. Make sure your computer and/or hard drive isn't set to go into standby mode.

If you are using dvd2svcd along with tmpgenc you can turn off the shutdown option after encoding. This option is On by default in dvd2svcd. I dont think it comes automatically in tmpgenc, but if you are using this, check to make sure that it is off.

  4. When I meant it would shutdown, i didn't mean it would encode the whole movie then shutdown, I should've of been more clear about that. I also thought it was my power settings but nope. I did fix my problems somebody mentioned that my ram could be causing it so i took one stick out and tried it and it still happened. The problem was my processor had been taking on too much head, I'm on a notebook so there's hardly any room for it to breathe. The fix was simple enough, i put this little case on the bottom that raises it to about a 20 degree angle and voila. Up until now i hadn't been able to encode anything over 50 megs. So i guess for those having similar problems, you may wanna try my fix. I'm guessing since the fan is at the bottom when you block the notebook on a processor intensive project such as this you overheat it and it shutsdown to protect your hardware from any damage.
