Is there a way to make burn a video on to a CD that will only play if a password is used?

I am making for my friend a VCD that has material that his kids (or wife!) should not see and it would be usfull that the resulting production can be only seen by those who have the right to.

  2. forget vcd if ytou want to do this... you could however make it avi and simply use 1 of the 100's of password progams on the net... it'll only play on a pc though...

  5. You can set a restriction category in a VCD, but it won't do anything unless the player supports it. My DVD player allows you to set restriction levels, but it seems to only work for DVDs (it ignores it for VCDs). Something to try though.

    From the VCDImager guide:
    Restriction category.
This element allows to set viewing restrictions which may be interpreted by the playing device. The allowed range goes from '0', i.e. unrestricted, to '3', i.e. restriction category 3. (The exact meaning of the restriction categories is depending on the interpreting playing device.)

  6. Just set up a menu system that shows "G rated" selections 1 to 2 then have a selection 9 that is not listed that goes to the "Husband only" stuff

Alternative: Use a separate 10 cent CDR for his porn (ooops, other stuff) and label it "Microsoft Access Program Backup (Disk 2 of 6)" that is filed away.

    Thanks for the tips

However, to be more correct , I am wondering can I set up a MPEG 1 video (the video does not have to be in the true VCD format as long as it plays on a computer that is OK) to be password protect as one of you states can be done with an AVI file?

  9. any program that can lock a file will keep most ppl out... as i said earlier you'd probably find several free on cnet. I don't know of a way to lock a vcd tho... but if you treat the mpg as a file it should be NP.
