Another Newbie here everyone. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to convert a Sony Blu-ray (BDV-E370) into allowing the U.S. version of Netflix (I'm in Canada) to play on it? Apparently it recognizes my country? Thanks.

But it costs 5$/month... -
Netflix probably checks your ISP and if you come from a Canadian ISP, it sends you to Canada Netflix. You would need an account with the US Netflix anyway to access it - do you have such an account? I would not think so. Netflix has country by country deals and a Canadian account would not have access to US Netflix videos.

Services like unblock-us work very well in Canada. I'm in Canada as well and use a similar service to access US Netflix from several different devices.
All of these services require that you change the DNS servers used by your router or device to use the service's DNS servers. Somehow this gets around the normal geolocation that Netflix performs. These services are not VPNs. You still need to have a paid Netflix account. These services do not grant you access to Netflix for free.
If your Sony Blu-Ray player allows you to change the DNS server used by it's Internet connection then you should be able to access US Netflix from Canada. Alternatively you can set your router to use the special DNS servers.
Most of the services such at unblock-us recommend that you do not use their DNS servers for other types of connections. I've heard that using the special DNS servers for things like online banking can trigger security warnings. -
Yes I signed up with unblock-us this weekend and spent a majority of it with their support team and the issue (according to unblock-us) has come down to Sony equipment recognizing the country I'm in and ONLY allowing the Canadian feed. As well I also signed up for the Netflix U.S. account and still no luck. I was hoping someone knew how to convert/hack my Blu-ray to U.S. version.

Strange, as I am able to use a service similar to unblock-us with a Sony PS3. I have no problem accessing US Netflix with a Canadian Netflix account. That being said, I know that Sony loves to lock their products to regions / countries. Sorry I can't help further.
I wonder what would happen if you tried to use your Blu-ray player in the US. -
I got my ps3 to work with U.S. netflix using this site,no gimmicks.
http://tunlr.net/
Also worked with my sony blu-ray player. All you need to do is change the dns settings.I think, therefore i am a hamster. -
If you need some help on changing the dns settings just ask.

@johns0 I tried tunlr. I only changed dns in my blu-ray. At the risk of sounding stupid I don't know how to "restart" it. Does it mean just turn it off and on again? If so, it doesn't work for me. Right now I'm trying to get Sony to unregister my player and re-register it on the U.S. site. Thanks for suggestions.

Go to network settings and select internet settings/wired setup or wireless setup/custom and choose auto for all until you get to dns settings and input the numbers you get at tunlr and then continue the end with auto or no for proxy server and at the end ou will get a screen that says Save & Connect/Discard & Exit, choose Save & Connect.
Registering it for the states won`t work since its the connection settings that netflix sees that determines if it`s U.S. or canada.I think, therefore i am a hamster.
