I really need these video files to work to complete my movie about a recent trip I took. I recovered these files from my SD Card. I have done some research on this problem but I dont feel like trying out a million freeware programs in hopes that they will work and I know next to nothing when it comes to binary coding or repairing videos. I read some posts on my topic in here but that was from 2011 and 2012. I figured I would start a new thread thinking technology etc has changed since then. These videos were taken with my GOPRO 2. Im running out of steps to take, so I figured I would ask the community in hopes someone could repair them for me or tell me a program which will do it for me (preferably free).
Thank you so much for your help

Can you post a short working file from same camera?
-
Sure....Ill upload a short video from the same day. Should be uploaded before noon est today

Video repair tool failed. But it might work if I have a working mp4 file.

here is a short working file (GOPR0286). The program I just used was called All Video Fixer. I had the program look at one of the files and after a bit, it stated it fixed it. However, nothing happens when I try to play it. This file is called (FIXED GOPR0284). I am using VLC as my video playback. It plays all the other video files I have but not the current ones posted in this thread. I also just tried Media Player Classic Home Cinema(MPC-HC) to play back the "fixed file." The program states it cannot render the file. It plays the other videos fine.

What was the issue with the files and how did you resolve it? Ill have to see if it works for me when I get a chance within the hour or so.

They do work, which is awesome but unfortunately the data must've got erased and replaced by existing data. The original data had my rollercoaster trip on it, the files now have another trip on them. I suppose this is common though and was half expecting it to happen

I used Grau GbRs Video Repair Tool. The only camcorder mp4/mts/m2ts repairing utility that has worked for me.
-
If there isn't a way to get the original data back, I'm very grateful for you trying.

If the video has been replaced you can't do much. Or well you could always call Gil Grissom...
.

I may just have to give him a call hahaha...I just remembered one of the videos I uploaded to Facebook awhile back. I wonder if I can download that video onto my computer again from facebook? That would replace one file to its original state

I'm sorry for not being agree with you on that. MP4repair.org service worked in my tests as well.

@FireRouteR, I think it's a little shady that you don't make clear your affiliation with MP4Repair.org. You have been on these forums since January, and after scores of posts, the ONLY advice you have given has been to describe and direct them there. If that didn't give you away as a shill/plant, the fact that you both are in Barcelona nailed it.
Is that the only kind of help you intend to give?
Sorry if I am blunt, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em.

Hello Scott,
I'm not trying to promote any other service but those I know they work. And yes, Aero Quartet guys are good friends but nothing more than that. We both are from Barcelona (Spain) and share same interests for video repairing.
Anyway if you or any other admin thinks that my advices aren't helping just let me know and won't share them again (in this particular thread I just was only noticing Baldrick about the improvements done in the MP4repair.org service dealing with such kind of GoPro files).
Excuse me if I polluted the thread.
Kind Regards,

Hey, if you are only a fan of their work, don't worry about it. They could be good or not - I don't know. I DO know that many types of file repairs CANNOT be done after the file is divorced from its original media, and for others it varies greatly depending on the fragmentation and on the recognizability of the data streams. And, as such, there are plenty of apps - Mp4repair.org included - where it would be impossible to restore a file to some semblance of its former self.
I'm glad you like MP4repair.org's services. So, what other apps and/or services do you recommend? (file repair or otherwise)
I just had my hackles up because it seemed to smack of advertising.

Hi Scott,
I would say that Grau's solution is a good -and cheap- way to test whether your footage is repairable or not. Also Remo's repair software has some good results in certain formats and Recuva does great when recovering ProRes footage (among others). My findings are not so good using Stellar Phoenix's solution.
Regarding video repair services so far I did not found any other that could compare to the one offered by Aero Quartet's guys.
But that's my own experience, and of course might differ from any other pal on the forum.
Kind Regards,
