ive been told you can change the settings on machines so they play dvd's of any region,by unlocking some factory settings.
ive done a search and found my machine but i dont understand what needs to be done,it looks like i need to purchase software.
ive been told it can be done by using the standard remote alone.
any help would be great

@the collector
No one has the obligation to answer your doubts. Being rude doesn't help too. In here. Or any other forums.
Doing that way no one will help you. Anywhere.
Maybe this help too?

PS: have you tried to contact the Panasonic dealer as just adviced? Maybe they can help you too.
Regards.

@the collector: I don't know who told you that your DVD recorder can be hacked with just a regular remote, but they were probably misinformed. It is only true for some DVD players, and DVD recorders can rarely be hacked that way, especially Panasonic models. Judging by what I saw, it appears you do not have a model that can be hacked easily.
There have been some other posts here from Australian members to the effect that, by law, the manufacturer has to unlock a DVD player or recorder if the owner requests it. If the unit is still under warranty, the service may be provided free of charge. Even if a service center does charge you for the service, it will probably be less costly than buying the equipment required to do it yourself.
The other alternative is to buy a cheap DVD player that can be hacked easily and only use your Panasonic for recording. A lot of people do that anyway because DVD recorders are expensive to repair or replace when the DVD drive wears out.
[Edit]You can't easily hack your DVD recorder because it has to have new firmware installed to make it region free for DVD playback. DVD players that can be hacked easily use generic firmware, so that the manufacturer can change a few settings, plus the power supply and cord to be able to sell the same basic product anywhere. DVD recorders don't often use generic firmware because most record from a tuner, and since the TV broadcast system(s) used varies by country, the firmware has to be customized for the individual countries where the device is sold.Last edited by usually_quiet; 3rd Nov 2013 at 09:56.
