  1. I've had this for a few months now and it works pretty well, generally. I have a WD external cloud drive hooked into my router, which it reads like a USB device, so even though I tried the PC connection once or twice and couldn't get it to work, it didn't really matter. I do have trouble getting it to play .mkv files. It won't play 98% of the .mkv's I have, which comprises a good chunk of my media collection. Is there a firmware update I can get to fix this or a good batch converter for my PC? Also, someone in another thread mentioned a network manager for the BR player called PlayOn? Is there an app I can get that will give browsing media more of a visual UI like Netflix instead of the the folder view? The folder view works fine, it's just uninteresting and a little cumbersome at times.

Hopefully someone who actually knows will eventually respond. I recall some people here with Sony players saying that you have to change the MKV files to M2TS to get Sony's players to play them. I'm working from memory here and don't have a Sony player, so while I think that's what you need to do, confirmation from someone who actually knows would be good.

My sony bdp-s380 plays all of my mkv files as long as they have no head stripping and and be profile 4.1 and lower, check with media info to see if they have head stripping and /or profile 5.0.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  4. I don't really know how to check the profiles and whatnot on my video files. It seems to like most .MP4 files but almost none of my .mkv's will play. If someone explains it I can pick it up fairly quickly and maybe then I can see some sort of rhyme or reason to what it will play and what it won't.

  5. If anybody knows a good converter that will let me set a profile the player will like I can recode if necessary. I'm just trying to see if there's a way to avoid having to do that.

you can use the free mediainfo to check video files. use it in text mode to get most answers. mkv files with header stripping can be re-muxed with mkvmergegui to remove the header stripping.

i believe the program mkvtomp4 can change levels and things to get mkvs more compatible.
