  1. I just bought one. I have some DVD bought oversea for my son but the player won't let me play it. Search result all require a remote with the REPEAT button which mine does not have. Is there any way to make it work?

    Thanks

Most Sony and Samsung players of all types CANNOT EVER be made region free.

If you live in Australia or New Zealand and you bought the player there, you can call Samsung technical support in your country and ask them to make the player region free for DVD playback. If you don't live in one of those 2 countries and you did not buy the player in one of those 2 countries, then you will probably never be able to unlock it.

You can always rip the DVDs and reburn them. Ripping will remove the region coding. However, your player will need to be able to handle region free DVDs in the video format (NTSC or PAL) that the original discs are in. This may or may not be a problem depending on where you live and what format those original DVDs are in.

Maybe best choice is to buy an universal remote and program it as a Samsung remote with the repeat button, and then use the hack listed on this very site.

  4. I just borrowed a remote from a friend AK59-00149A that comes with BD-F5100. It has a repeat button at the bottom. Tried a dozen times and did not work. Anyone knows if a specific remote is needed? Thanks

You might try sending a private message to Viking61 as he keeps up with this subject more than anybody here. I do want to warn you that if you ever get it unlocked, and if you live in the USA or Canada the odds are about 99% against you ever unlocking it, do NOT ever update the firmware or you may find it impossible to ever unlock it again. If you have to disconnect it from your network to prevent updating, do it. I cannot emphasize this enough. If you ever upgrade the firmware, even just once, after unlocking it, don't come back here complaining and asking how to unlock it again when the firmware upgrade permanently breaks region free mode.

  6. Region code is normally locked in the optical drive. The region code can be changed only a few times. Are you suggesting Samsung actually implementing region locking in the software? Thanks

You are mixing up computer drives and set-top players.

Let's try to get this straight. It is not illegal to alter the region coding on a DVD player. Sony Panasonic denon and most high end manufacturers need a special remote. You aim this remote at the DVD player press the send button and your DVD player is region free.this is what the manufacturers use. If you go to genuine copys online they will sell you the correct remote for your player.
