Ripping a Digital Video Express dvd/DVIX dvd (Circuit City)

In the near future I plan an buying a DVIX dvd of "Slums of Beverly Hills", two are for sale on Amazon for 48cents plus shipping. But I was wondering if this dvd can even be ripped. Or better yet even viewed in a dvd player. (besides a DVIX dvd player) I started searching the internet but came up with no answers do to the introduction of the DivX/Xvid codecs. Is/was triple DES so serious that it's almost uncrackable? I'm totally fine with the idea that I'm buying a "coaster", if that's the case. It can sit next to the 16 or so Video 8movies I own.

This format required a special player that I think had to be connected to a phone line to authorize playback. You could watch for free for the first 48 hours and then had to pay after that. This was something Circuit City backed and they are now dead, so I doubt that they have any servers that can still authorize playback. The format used triple DES encryption instead of the normal encryption methods that DVD used, so there are no cracks and no way to rip. The person selling them knows that they can't be played, which is why they are so cheap.

Cracking triple DES currently requires a supercomputer. Researchers have found way to shorten the attack from "not in your lifetime" to "maybe in your lifetime" but currently for all practical purposes it's uncrackable.

I've never seen one of these discs, but note that at the time the "quality" that Divx was capable of at the time was very low. Most people today would likely consider these to be unacceptable.
