  1. I have ripped a DVD (The Fast and The Furious) using these programmes;
    Clad DVD XP
    DVD2AVI
    TMPGEnc
    NERO 5.5
After I encoded the vob to mpg, watching the movie is very jerky, does not flow very smooth. Is there any setting I should adjust in TMPGEnc to fix this problem ?
The movie is a 16:9 Pal.

Could anyone help me out please.

  2. I've got exactly the same problem.
I am working with Windows XP- what system do you have?
I have tracked the problem down to the mpg file being jerky but don't know how to fix it and whether the problem is in the smartripper of tmpg settings.
    Any help greatly appreciated

  4. I have jerky SVCDs using TMPG when I use 16:9 output and play on any Apex model. It doesn't mater what I image or burn with. Oddly enough they play fine on any other SVCD compatible players. It only happens with TMPG output set to 16:9 and played on Apex brand. I like setting output and source to 16:9 for my 16:9 DVDs because they play correct aspect on both PowerDVD (set to keep aspect ratio) and my widescreen TV with console player. No other settings on TMPG will do both.

I GOT the same softare 100%. I found changing the CD bard can help. Some DVD players just can not handle cheap CDs. I can only use one barnd and not have problems.

  6. I dont think the problem is the CD's because I play the movie as a mpg on the hard disk before I burn it,(so I dont make to many coasters). It is still a bit jerky.

VCD demand more from a DVD player. I play Mpegs 99% of the time it is just faster.

  8. Yes I have the same poblem as axelplay.
The problem is definately the mpg. It is jerky before it is converted to VCD & has nothing to do with which brand of cd is used

  9. For SVCD playing problem, try this:

On MPEG 2 files, the VBV buffer needs to be 112.

In order to get TMPGEnc to create a file with a 112 VBV buffer size, you have to set it to 224.

The above can be check with Bitrate viewer available in the tool section of this site.

For VCD, are you making 23.97 fps VCD or 29.97 VCD ?

In TMPGenc, I am pretty sure that you are using " Interlace" in the Settings -> General and Settings -> Advanced tabs. Try changing from Interlace to Non-interlace. I was making a SVCD and had the same problem. But changing this fixed it all.

  11. I tried the interlaced option but it made no difference. The problem is only in VCD (mpeg1) I havent tried SVCD yet (Havent got the plugins yet). it has nothing to do with the CD's or the player, it comes down to the mpg file after it has been encoded from TMPGEnc.

Make sure if your input is 16:9 that you set your output to 16:9. Also make sure you have 'Full screen(keep aspect ratio' under video arange under the advanced tab on tmpg.

  14. Same scenario here but I actually found what fixes it. (for me anyway) I read in another post that you need to change the field order under advanced video settings. Mine was set at "bottom field first" and when I changed it to "top field first" the jitteriness when away and the quality was great.

    Hope this works for you.

  15. shinomen, that only works if there's no jerkiness on computer monitor..but only appears on TV (TV and monitor have different ways to output video)

but if the rip is jerky when being play on the computer monitor..then it's not the field order....also field order doesn't matter if the source is film, non-interlaced..

    1) make sure you use FORCED FILM in dvd2avi...

    2) also make sure you set motion search accuracy to high quality (slow)

and are you using any filters such as "de-interlace"???

  16. Not neccesarily. I had the jerkiness on both the monitor and the tv. I burned the jerky movie onto a DVD-RW and played it on both the computer and the standalone DVD player. All I know is I changed the field order and it worked for me. So it could work for others.
